‘La Banque’ is a saga retracing the tempestuous history of a family of bankers over the course of two centuries filled with economic ups and downs, from the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, where the Rothschilds made their fortune, to the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers in 2008.
The world as we know it today was shaped by this succession of wins and losses, of stock market booms and crashes, of bankruptcies and political and economic crises, each one of them triggered by man’s insatiable greed for money and power. Over the generations, the descendants of this family will expand and squander their wealth in turns. Their story is a testament to the evolution of the modern economy, starting at the very beginning: the emergence of a central bank after the rise of Napoleon.
