The action takes place some time BC (or AD, who really knows… or cares?), during the era known as the Plasticine Period. According to the authors, at the time strange creatures such as Nabuchodinosaur (Nab to his friends) were living on the Earth. Not really a dinosaur, but certainly not a human being, Nab is nonetheless endowed with the gift of the gab, best demonstrated through his very personal sense of humour. This aspect of his character helps him get over the specific problems that were rife during the Plasticine Period, such as unexpected meteorite storms, security agents with bludgeons at the ready, the New (Ice) Age with, to put it mildly, unexpected and disturbing climatic consequences, man (or dinosaur) eating plants and numerous other rather unfriendly creatures that tend to pop up at the most inopportune moments. This very funny series has received numerous awards, including the 1993 Angoulême Alph-Art Youth prize.
