The life and story of David Crook, a communist who fought against Franco and spied for the KGB, and whose groundbreaking writings changed the way the world looked at China. It was there that this revolutionary Englishman, born in London in 1910, spent most of his life and witnessed a country undergoing tremendous upheaval and cultural revolution. Despite the injustices he encountered there — including five years in solitary confinement — Crook remained faithful to his adopted second homeland, dying in Beijing at the age of 90.
