The fat one is Cornélius Chesterfield, a zealous and disciplined sergeant in the US Army. The small one is Blutch, a crafty man who is totally disillusioned, always moaning, and dreams only of deserting. Caught up in the trials of the American Civil War, these two do what they can to escape the problems that come their way in the shape of narrow-minded superiors, ridiculous orders, and, quite simply, bad luck. Through their stories full of humor and action, Lambil and Cauvin give a caustic critique of the absurdities of war and obtuse militarism.
