I am as famous as Shakespeare or Einstein. I have more than three million references on Google… Who am I? Here is the compelling biography of a man who changed the face of society: the inventor of psychoanalysis. Sigmund Freud begins his story with his birth in 1856 in Moravia, then presents the key moments of his life: his childhood, meeting his wife Martha, his medical studies, his encounter with Charcot in Paris, his first ‘discoveries’ about the unconscious, his ‘invention of psychoanalysis’, his famous cases (Dora, the Rat Man, Little Hans), the concepts he created (the Oedipus complex, the myth of the father). All his life, Freud sought to conquer these new and fascinating territories of the unconscious, and to ‘liberate’ men from the constraints of society at the time. Today, in a period when attacks against psychoanalysis are flourishing, the master of psychoanalysis concludes that the twenty-first century still needs him! Anne Simon’s illustration have something of the Art Nouveau of the beginning of the twentieth century, while anchoring the world of psychoanalytic ideas in symbolic and humorous images.
