Set in present-day south of France. At a roadside service station, two men meet by chance. One of them is shocked to recognize the man whom he thought he had killed in a terrible hunting accidet, months before. He flees in terror, but his “victim” — very much alive — hunts him down and kills him, this time for real.
10 years later Martial, a former policeman, is going through the basement of his deceased best friend Rémi when he comes across the personal documents of a man he doesn’t know: an identity card, a hunting permit and a gun license. Martial recalls that it was in that very basement that he, Rémi and two accomplices had hatched their plot – one that they hoped would prove very profitable, if not exactly legitimate. The plan consisted of locating a stranger passing through the area, and inviting him to accompany them on a hunting trip. The set-up was simple: one of them would play the role of the victim tragically shot by their new friend. To ensure the silence of the other members of the party, the stranger would pay a hurried visit to the bank and then leave the region forever ! And, if necessary, Martial would use his position as a policeman to cover their tracks.
Everything went according to plan – right up until that unplanned meeting at the service station!
