After a final epic battle, Kriss of Valnor is left for dead by the
soldiers of the Empire.  However, she awakens, miraculously unharmed, in
a room that is as enormous as it is strange.  She has been gathered in
by the Valkyries, the legendary female warriors who conduct the souls of
dead soldiers to Valhalla.  Before deciding the fate of such an unusual
warrior as Kriss, the Valkyries must first judge her.  In order to save
her mortal life, Kriss must tell her story to the Valkyries.  She must
reveal everything about her horrifying childhood; her fierce battle for
survival; and her very first murders…
