Can anyone stop the birth of an idea? A wide-ranging exploration of futuristic and political ideas from the authors of Le Complexe du Chimpanzé (The Chimpanzee Complex). The premise is ambitious: a few years from now, due to the increasing power of computers and advances in behavioral science and sociology, it will be possible to detect the birth of an « idea » in a human being — even before it actually appears. A group of wealthy and powerful men seek to stop the appearance of a liberating idea before it threatens their established order. With this on mind, the group designs an experiment to eliminate the person who may be carrying the seed of the idea… All across the planet, fifteen people — from a range of backgrounds and professions — are kidnapped. The prisoners try to understand what is happening to them. Indeed, it soon appears as if their captors are trying to pick out one of their number…
