1920. In the Sahara Desert, a young French officer is sent to join a unit of the French camel cavalry. Their leader: Captain Parentin, a legend among the Tuareg nomads. The Four Corners of the World explores a little-known part of French history. From 1902 to 1962, « camel cavalry » units patrolled the French Sahara, mounted on dromedaries. Composed of volunteer officers and of troops recruited from among the local people, these units lived like nomads, sleeping under tents and constantly on the move, in order to address local conflicts, battle thieves and raiders, and maintain a French presence in the most far-flung corners of the colonies.A young, idealistic officer sets out on the trail of a legendary captain captured by bandits during a raid. The Four Corners of the World takes us along on an extraordinary human adventure, in the footsteps of these men so fascinated by the desert that they have forsaken their homelands in search of silence and truth.
