Prune and her brother Janus, who has been blind since an accident which robbed him of his sight, live in an orphanage. One evening they’re awoken by a strange music, played by an even stranger cat: Braise.
Braise dazzles them with the prospect of going to live in a marvellous kingdom, ruled by a beautiful queen who dreams of having them for her own children. His charming words and manner seduce the children into following him to the underground land.
They arrive in the middle of an enchanting fun fair, where they are welcomed by a troop of joyous clowns as well as three bizarre characters: Worm, Potato and Guy Bol. This artificial cheerfulness makes Prune uneasy, who mistrusts their new friends, and especially the potion that the children keep being pushed to drink. Her doubts are well-founded, for she discovers that at night, this enchanting place reverts to its true form: dark, dilapidated and peopled with monsters… Will Prune be able to save her friends from this terrifying world?
