A parking lot not far from Brussels. This is where Moheeb, a teenage Afghan refugee, lives on a bench. It’s a precarious life, but it’s brightened up by soccer games with his friend Hugo and discussions with Qaïs, a migrant like him who has fallen in love with a young Belgian girl. Supported by Souad, a member of an association, and the mother of Hugo, a teenager who makes life very difficult for him, Moheeb the quiet one seems to enjoy the long summer days, despite the papers that don’t arrive, the attacks and the threats from the police. Unless a secret fire is consuming him from within. If we don’t know what’s going on inside the head of a teenager with a roof over his head and a family, how can we know what’s going on inside Moheeb’s? After Merel, Clara Lodewick explores the daily lives and mental health of unaccompanied refugee minors, while composing a splendid gallery of characters.
