La Ballade des quatre saisons

André Geerts tackles once again the childhood by telling us, in a very original and personal way, a thousand anecdotes taking place with the passing time and seasons. The stories of Jojo are always wavering between cruelty and gentleness, fragile emotions and laughs, without any prettiness. An idealized childhood where life is neither a bed of roses, nor a struggle for survival.

La blanche lance

Antioch has fallen, betrayed by one of its own. Still, times are dire for the occupying crusaders, caught between forces holding out in a citadel at the heart of the city, and a new Turkish army outside its gates, outnumbering their own forces ten to one. Plague and starvation whittle down their numbers, but Hermance is of no help: the light of his holy healing gift seems to have been doused by his affair with the Tafur princess Istvana. Jealousy consumes Black Liv while his captains Bohemond and Raymond of Toulouse quarrel over spoils. What miracle will save the day?

Prisonniers du bout du monde

It’s winter 1901. The crew of the Leviathan has ended up in the Ushuaia penal colony, accused not only of having sabotaged the governor’s whaler, but also of acts of piracy resulting in the death of sailors. Needless to say, the upcoming trial will be rigged, and our whale-hunters may have to wait some time before they see the sea again. Esteban, who thankfully managed to escape imprisonment thanks to his uncle Tonto, vows to rescue his friends. He manages to get himself enrolled as a prison guard, but only for a short time. In eight days, he’ll have to leave to complete his training at La Plata. So, he has 8 days to win the trust of the fearsome Sergeant La Paz, eight days of pandering to the general’s wife, and eight days to plot his friends’ escape…

Karma City 2/2

Major Cooper, Asuka, and Napoli have finally succeeded in dismantling the dark network of stolen antiquities. But when the judge inexplicably takes the guilty party’s defense before dying of a stroke, the three investigators understand that the high spheres of society are affected by a conspiracy of unsuspected magnitude. They begin a race against the clock to join the abandoned networks of the city in an attempt to survive and to secretly pursue their mission as would-be guardians of humanity’s free will. Fortunately, the alchemists–protectors of a new version of the city’s original quantic computer intelligence–come to their aid. However, their artificial intelligence has a conscience and with it, an immense amount of power. Who will be the master and who will be the slave?

Hélas

When a young girl is captured in the forest and brought to the city, only to escape shortly afterwards, all manner of individuals and organizations try to get their hands on her, no matter the cost. In a chilling and clever tour de force, the authors use the backdrop of the 1910 Great Flood of Paris to depict a world where animals rule and humans are viewed as curiosities, scientific guinea pigs, hunting trophies, and the occasional snack. A political satire that forces us to question our treatment of different species, the nature of intelligence, and more.

“Certainly, the history laid out, the implications of that history, and the engaging characters who traverse the adventure have offered an intriguing mix. I can certainly say that there is no reason this story shouldn’t continue, and I would be disappointed if it doesn’t.” Comics Beat

Mexico

A highly dubious investigation in the heat and humidity of Mexico’s badlands. When headless women’s bodies are found all across Mexico City, Interpol agent Clare Burnell faces the indifference of the local police and the ultra-violence of gangs of drug traffickers. Her only choice is to team up with Pablo Tikal, a P.I. whose methods are as effective as they are unorthodox.

Traqués

Esteban has finally earned his stripes as ship’s harpooner after having saved the crew from the wrath of a huge blue whale. But now their hunting ground is jeopardized by a steam boat that’s just shown up in the area. Faster and better equipped with explosive harpoons, these more modern ships massacre hoards of whales to extract only the part that sells for the highest price. In a madcap plan to neutralize their unfair competition, the captain of Esteban’s ship slips aboard the steamer to try and sabotage its engine. However, he’s not as gifted a mechanic as he might think, and it’s not long before the crew of the Leviathan have to haul anchor and set sail…
