McCurry NY 11 septembre 2001

The 21st century only really began on the 11th September 2001, now 15 years ago, with the collapse of the twin towers of the World Trade Center. This event plunged the world into a whole new era; a century in which war zones have erupted right at the heart of our comfortable Western world. Nevertheless, we have to keep documenting the world and its inhabitants as they are today, which Steve McCurry has always done with a superb sense of photographic vision. Within the partnership between the two prestigious labels, Aire Libre and Magnum Photos, Jean-David Morvan has written this tale in collaboration with the photographer himself. Morvan tells the tale of McCurry’s life, from Afghanistan in the 1980s, to his numerous trips to India, to the chaos of the century that dawned with the events of 9/11. Exciting Korean artist Kim Jung Gi steps up to the challenge of portraying all the intensity of a life dedicated to image.

Ressources humaines

Zombillenium, the monster amusement park run by the monsters themselves, is rubbing some people the wrong way. After all, when you only hire the dead (or witches) in a region where unemployment is in the double digits, some friction is to be expected. But things get particularly ugly when the park’s security is breached by activists. Meanwhile, the park director seems to recognize one of the visitors from somewhere… As all of this unfolds, Gretchen and Aurelian will do their best to keep this precarious situation from exploding! De Pins is back with more of his trademark tongue-in-cheek humor and stunning artwork.

Le sacrifice

In a world where meat means survival, Frank can’t seem to catch a break—or an animal. He just can’t bring himself to kill a fellow creature. Just looking into a baby mammoth’s big eyes is enough to turn him vegetarian. But while out looking for fruit to eat, he runs afoul of an old nemesis: the wily Leonard, who once stole his Swiss Army knife (and is still puzzling over it). Will Frank’s new mammoth friend save him from Leonard’s clutches? Will Leonard save them all from the common cold? And just why is their forbidden fruit forbidden?

Karmen

This is a graphic novel about death and suicide… but not in the way you think. It’s about death that can be reversible, when and if the right angels are looking. The dead person here is Catalina, a self-absorbed student who kills herself out of heartbreak. The angel is Karmen, an angel of the facetious, unusual sort. Her capacity for empathy is so great that she leads “her” dead on a journey toward redemption and, believe it or not, back to life! Full of surprises, metaphysics, and beautiful women, this graphic novel is tender and not devoid of humor.
