Rikers Prison in New York is not a place anyone would choose to spend time—least of all Sisco. Fortunately for him, he’s thought to be safer out than in, but back in Paris he finds himself grounded. That doesn’t last long either, as Sisco walks right into yet another terrorist plot and finds himself being used by both sides. According to Murphy’s Law, anything that can go wrong will go wrong—and that certainly applies in Sisco’s case. But, of course, the man from Corsica is not one to be put off by a few setbacks …

Although he may not be very well known to the general public, Chamisso is one of the most significant writers from the Romantic period in Europe. He authored the key novel, “Peter Schlemihl”, also known as, “The Man who Sold his Shadow”. In this fictionalised biography, the authors depict the story of a man, an amalgamation of Schlemihl and his creator Chamisso, who sells his shadow (the symbol of his identity) to the Devil in exchange for money, and all of the miseries that befall him afterwards!
Chamisso is one of the most unlucky writers of the nineteenth century, so much so that his life can be summarised in one long joke. He never had much luck in love, despite his talents as a writer, and was never truly appreciated by either the French or the Germans. Sadly, that was all due to something outside of his control- his identity. He was one of the first great writers to have no legal nationality. He considered himself as a citizen of the Earth; a philosophy which eventually led him to set off on a tour of the world.
