Four writer friends meet regularly, usually in their “headquarters” — a small Parisian café, which is about to be put on sale. They discuss their books (current projects, new ideas, writer’s block, and the business side of things), as well as their daily lives as writers (social events, new encounters, rivalries). We follow their professional evolution, their difficulties, and their flights of fancy. There’s the sickly, gifted and highly cultivated Malard; the wildly creative but always-dissatisfied Inscht; the womanizing show-off Alpodraco; and the cynical complainer Greul. But there’s also a young writer who comes by to flatter them and ask for advice; an elderly professor slowly descending into homelessness; a famous woman author; a young intern-slash-secretary-slash-freelancer of easy virtue… With all their setbacks and disappointments, their only solid footing is their bistro — which is about to be sold out from under them. So the group put their minds together, determined to stop the loss of their home base at all costs…
