Trish Trash’s story begins in a futuristic setting on our nearest neighbor in the Solar System, Mars. Trisha Nupindju is the ward of a Martian moisture farmer. Every day before dawn, she’s out collecting the dew off 1300 acres of metal sails dug into the red sand of Mars. She’s also a girl with a dream, and it looks like today’s her chance for it to come true. Her local derby team, the Terror Novas, are having an open tryout. Today, no matter what, she’s skipping school, she’s trying out, she’s going to become a derby star. Trish really is talented. Talented enough that team captain Hanna Barbarian doesn’t want the competition. So when Hanna loses a jam to Trish because her skate jams up with Martian dust, she blames Trish. Just as our hero’s about to be kicked out she quickly fixes Hanna’s skate. The result: the coach offers her a Corporation internship contract (the Corporation owns everything, runs everything and their contracts are barely a step up from indentured servitude) and Trish signs on as the equipment manager. The coming months—and this bold young woman’s coming of age—will see her taking the lead on the team, finding out that her parents weren’t killed by the Martian natives, and learning that the first thing the Terran colonists should have done was reinvent the wheel and share their water with the native Martians. In the process Trish will solve the mystery of where the Martians were during the first half-century of humanity’s stay on Mars, come to understand her place in the society, and, she’ll race against her hero, Hannah, for the chance to take on the toughest team from Earth in the wildest game in this solar system. This is a powerful, positive and politically aware adventure built
around a courageous young girl, who follows her dream in spite of the
odds being stacked against her.
