After having escaped her teacher’s vigilant eye during a class field trip, Tutu, an adventurous little girl, has got lost in the mountains. Trembling with cold, she goes to sleep below a rock ledge. When she awakes, she finds herself in a completely different world… A town at the bottom of the valley seems to be huddled in perpetual winter. The arrival of a child from the outside world unleashes a torrent of emotions, and Tutu is arrested by the rabbits of the secret police. The dictator who rules the valley places Tutu with a family that is supposed to keep an eye on her. But she escapes from her new home as often as she can. In the course of her adventures, Tutu discovers the villagers’ strange customs. But she longs for her own world, and wants to go home. The dictator offers her a bargain: if Tutu helps him to capture the famous butterfly that dreams the world, he will help her to return home. Because whoever has control of this butterfly can control the world…
The Dream of the Butterfly is a magnificent fable in the style of Hayao Miyazaki, a story about power and about the choice between personal happiness and the collective good. An extraordinary universe full of poetry, mingled with humor and the fantastic.
