Naples is an extraordinary city, for more reasons than just one. Here,
four remarkable authors offer us their visions, in the form of fiction
that crosses and intertwines. It’s a portrait of a city where the
visitor discovers mythological figures from one of the oldest cities in
the world; Napoleon, who was one of the innumerable generals to conquer
this strategic spot; and everyday Neapolitans, fanatic about football
(which is a true religion there). The real main character of the story
is the city itself, its streets, its people. And everything is
connected by linked narrative threads. Naples is, itself, indeed a
character: unpredictable, beautiful, disconcerting and violent — and
easy to fall in love with!
This book was created in partnership with the Festival de Bande
Dessinée of Naples, which invited each of its four artists-in-residence
to participate. The subject of the book is the city itself. These four
major artists made it a point of pride not to create the usual sort of
group anthology, that is, an ‘aimless’ collection of unrelated stories.
Instead, they put their heads together to share their stories and
create links and pathways among them. The final book, therefore, is a
truly unified story: unique, coherent, and satisfying.
