It’s Biarritz, in the present day, and Patxi Babel is 19 years old. He lives in the Basque country with his parents and his little sister, Katixa. He is a member of the national Junior Surf Team, which his incredibly strict father pushed him into joining. There is therefore a lot of tension in their relationship, and many of their interactions end in arguments. His father only cares about the performance and the competition, but Patxi aspires to something a bit more spiritual: communication between man and the waves. His father scoffs at the idea. And even though he loves his sport, Patxi can’t help but long for a more normal life and a chance to enjoy his youth.Our story begins with the WQS competition in Lacanau. To be one of the 15 highest scorers and win the chance to compete in the TOP 34, the circuit of elite pro-surfers which will take place the following year, Patxi needs to win enough points to get into the semi-finals of the competition… but he lets his best friend Ricardo win, sending his father into a rage. The next day, Patxi is invited to his cousin Mouchette’s party, where he meets the beautiful Laura. He has yet to discover that he will get introduced to the Basque nationalist organisation…
