One night, a thief, while taking refuge in the ruins of the Château de Mug near the banks of Zarafshan, has his shadow stolen. Much later, after he had become a member of the guild of treasure hunters, he sets out to find it. Here finally is the first David B. solo in the collection Poisson Pilote. Les Chercheurs de Trésor is a magnificent oriental tale, dark but immensely humane. In the streets of Baghdad, the veiled prophet, thought to have disappeared, begins once more to steal shadows.
So the brotherhood of the treasure hunters decides to search for the prophet. David B. drives his story breathlessly, like an early 20th century serial, an unlikely cross between Fantômas and les Contes des mille et une nuits “A Thousand and One Arabian Nights “.
The resulting book is a rare delight — majestic, sometimes frightening but always intelligent and magnificently drawn. A great Poisson Pilote.
