Ian Fortin was born on November 26th, 1975, in Montreal, and very soon began drawing.
His father, who had some painting and sculpting skill, was his first source of inspiration. During his childhood, Ian spent most of his time drawing his favorite comics characters. Progressively, he expanded his talents, including training to do animation work. He was mostly self-taught, studying from home.
At 26 years old, he started his career as a “concept artist” for video games and followed that up by doing freelance illustration and animation work for advertising agencies.
It was on November 26th, 2009, that, by lucky chance, a cute rabbit with a disproportionally big nose was born, the very same day of his creator’s birthday. “Boni” started his adventures in 52 short videos animated by Ian himself, later broadcast by “Télétoon.” At the same time, he approached Dupuis to pre-publish Boni in “Spirou” magazine, which led to a lengthy and successful collaboration resulting in the publication in 2017 of “La dernière bouchée de carotte” (“Boni: The Last Bite of Carrot,” Europe Comics 2018). From those weekly appearances to short videos on television, Boni has come a long way. But the best is yet to come! It’s just the beginning of the carrot!
