Gérard Lauzier studied architecture and philosophy before he started his artistic education. After producing some work in the press, he went to Brazil for a couple of years, where he did some publicity work. Back in France, he started making humorous illustrations again in several magazines, including Lui, France-Soir and Paris-Presse. In 1974, he entered the comic world, with his albums ‘Lili Fatale’ and ‘Un Certain Malaise’. At the same time, he made ‘Tranches de Vie’ for Pilote and ‘Zizi Panpan’ for Lui. A year later he created ‘Les Chroniques de l’île Grande’, directly inspired by his trip to Brazil.

In 1976, Lauzier wrote the western parody ‘Al Crane’ for Alexis, followed by ‘La Course du Rat’, ‘La Tête dans le Sac’, ‘Les Cadres’ and ‘Souvenirs d’un Jeune Homme’. He then left the comic world to concentrate on theatre, but later on made a theatrical adaptation of his comic ‘Tranches de Vie’.
