Within two months he has done everything the course has to offer, and decides to tackle this problem professionally by applying for a job at SPIROU. Chief editor Patrick Pinchart entrusts him with various animation and illustration jobs, which enables him at least to pay the electricity bills which Yann regularly holds out to him.
He begins to use his first working name (Slet) and slyly spies on his host for the next two years to discover all of his tricks of the trade.
The return to Paris of the prodigal son is celebrated fittingly and father Jean (Léturgie) decides to found his own publishing company with his two sons, Guillaume and Simon, to benefit from wonderboy’s graphical talent and to use the scripts the father himself is itching to write. The company name shows great discretion and modesty (Editions John “Eigrutel” Productions) – it is the inversed name of the family.
The first sensational series is launched in 1996: “Polstar”.
A year earlier, father and son had worked together on the first comic strip ever developed for the Internet: “Tatsoin”, produced live every day for the millions of surfers on the electronic “screen”. To complicate the mystery, Simon signs his illustrations with “Squad” while his father becomes “Berdache” for the script.
On a whim of fantasy, Eigrutel produces comic strips in black and white about Simon’s childhood and sells it by mail order, in a limited edition of 1000 copies.
To secure a promotional budget and edition worthy of their work, Jean and Simon apply with Éditions Dupuis for the launch of “Spoon & White”, the worst pair of cops ever seen in comic books.
The Humour Libre collection offers a new battlefield to father and son, even reinforced by the diabolical Yann with his artillery of gags and large-calibre puns. Will “Spoon & White” wipe out Eigrutel? Or will the latter buy Éditions Dupuis back? The future will tell, but whatever the outcome, the infernal trio is determined to blast Dirty Harry, San Antonio, Sylvester Stallone and other muscular killing machines of the old days straight into the old folks’ home.
