He admits to an unlimited admiration for Franquin and dreamt of achieving his level of skill in the tricky art of the single-strip story. His first attempts, from 1989 onwards, were to go in this direction: “Souvenirs… souvenirs…, “À tricheur, tricheur et demi” and “Les Derniers préparatifs”. However, he still needed a character and a universe to which he could attach himself. It was François Gilson, an inexhaustible reservoir of ideas, who would direct him to the world of car mechanics, which had not been caricatured much. In May 1991, “Garage Isidore” started up, and it is still going full throttle, like a motor kept in perfect shape.
Unlike his knight with the monkey wrench, Olis abides by his quotes and is not (often) late! This probably goes some way to explaining his great popularity with editors. His only tragedy is that he can no longer find a mechanic who will agree to fix his car since he started Isidore!
He handed over to Stédo in 2002 so that he could devote himself to his own creations.
