Given his upbringing, Hugo Sokal seemed destined to become a part of the world of comics. It was at a vineyard, however, that he began his professional life, in the Champagne region that he loved. Away from work, though, Sokal spent his free time exploring Eastern Europe, discovering each country, meeting the people, learning their language, and, above all, photographing them. What came out of it was an incredible energy worthy of the great reporters of another age, and which convinced his father, comics creator Benoît Sokal, to propose working together on an episode of his series ‘Canardo.’ Hugo seized the occasion, and took advantage by adding an element of geopolitics—one of his passions—to his father’s creation. It was a fruitful collaboration, which the father and son duo would later give another go when the Syberia saga was brought back to life after a twelve-year wait. Today, the younger Sokal explores his storytelling vision through various media, not least of which video games, while never forgetting to set aside the time for new adventures and discoveries that will undoubtedly lay the groundwork for future projects.
