Plenty of ways to beat the heat!
Summer is now in full swing and there’s much reading to be done during the holidays. Our new July releases should give you a few ideas.
Family is often close by during the warm weeks of summer, and the family from Les Beaux étés (Glorious Summers) is no exception as they embark on their latest escapade to the South of France.
After being cancelled last year, the Olympic games are finally beginning in Japan, so it’s the perfect time to relive the 1928 Olympics, when Boughéra El-Ouafi, a young Algerian-born Frenchman, surprised the world by winning the marathon (Marathon, by Nicolas Debon).
Those of you who will spend time prepping for back-to-school will have September on the brain. This year will mark the 20th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, and the educational comic 11 septembre, le jour où le monde a basculé (September 11th, 2001: The Day the World Changed Forever), retraces the tragic events of that day and the years that followed.

Le jour où le monde a basculé (one-shot)

Publisher: Dargaud
Genres:
Non-Fiction
On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, nineteen Al-Qaeda hijackers seized four planes. Two planes were flown onto the twin towers, iconic high-rise buildings in Manhattan, the third ploughed into the Pentagon, headquarters of US Defense, while the fourth aircraft crashed in a field in Pennsylvania, after the passengers tried in vain to regain control. The death toll from these four suicide bombings was 2,977 dead and 6,291 injured.
But what do younger generations know about this terrible tragedy that shook America and the world? It might be easy to find images of the planes hitting the Twin Towers, but do they know the impact those two hours have had on our society?
Organized in two phases, this documentary work by Baptiste Bouthier (journalist at “Libération”) and Heloïse Chochois (cartoonist specializing in scientific illustration) first recounts this historic day from several inside perspectives: Brian Clark and Stanley Prainman, 54 and 45 years old, two survivors of the South Tower; Suzann Plunkett, 30, photographer of the now iconic image of the dust cloud descending on the crowd; George W. Bush aboard Air Force One; conversations of passengers on board United Airlines, the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania, miles from the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
In a second phase, the authors take stock of 9/11 in the days, weeks and years that follow, from traumatized America to George W. Bush’s crusade against the “axis of evil,” from conspiracy theories to cyber surveillance.

Marathon (one-shot)
By Nicolas Debon
Publisher: Dargaud
Genres:
Non-Fiction
1928, Amsterdam. Boughéra El-Ouafi wins the marathon.
Through the eyes of the young Algerian-born Frenchman, Nicolas Debon tells the story of this legendary race. Thanks to Debon’s increasingly sensitive drawing style, the athlete’s emotions come clearly through the pages. Twenty-six miles of hope, doubt, and discipline accompany each frame against a red-ochre backdrop that seems to come directly from the dust-covered track.
After “Le Tour des géants”, “L’Invention du vide” and “L’Essai”, Nicolas Debon offers us a striking graphic novel about the wild competition that is the marathon — undoubtedly the race that has come up the hardest against both minds and bodies.
