What to expect in Angoulême
Just as Angoulême is setting up for next week’s festival, we are pleased to share with you the first releases of 2020. From Manu Larcenet’s hilarious new work about his mental illness, Therapie de groupe, to John’s investigation of the mysterious place where his son disappeared in Clinton Road, there’s definitely something for everyone.
We’ll be seeing many of you during the festival. As a reminder, you can find us in the Rights Tent, stand RL9. Take a look at the program so that you don’t miss out on any of the exciting events planned.
We would like to give a special shout-out to Catherine Meurisse, whose most recent work is the beautifully illustrated Delacroix, and Emmanuel Guibert, who associated with Joann Sfar and Mathieu Sapin in Sardine de l’espace, both nominated alongside Chris Ware for the festival’s Grand Prize of 2020.
Here’s to a new year equally filled with amazing books and success.

This is the story of a symbol. It’s the symbol of death, and also symbol of a secret association, exclusively female, that extols the benefits of violent punishment for all guilty parties: “mourning for mourning, a child for a child”! Everyone thought that the SHI association had disappeared forever. But it’s just started showing signs of existence again. An assassination will lead us back to the very beginnings of the SHI, halfway through the 19th century, at the heart of London as it prepares for the first World Exhibition. At the beginning, there was anger…

L’étoile qui danse (1)
By Manu Larcenet
Publisher: Dargaud
Genres:
Humor
The story of a comics author in search of inspiration. In his tireless quest, he roams the creative universe, going back through history and asking for help from the great painters, and from God himself. This journey to the sources of creation allows the reader to observe Larcenet’s extraordinary graphic talent and the breadth of his artistic range. But it also shows us a glimpse of an artist in pain, banging against the walls of incomprehension and loneliness. With ferocious lucidity, the author pulls no punches and poignantly depicts an artist adrift. Except that this artist, Larcenet, is also the master of self-mockery ! Facing the anxiety of creation with brutal honesty, he lays himself bare in this rich, deep, and surprisingly funny exploration of an often harrowing truth. Not everyone can combine humor and helplessness. With this moving, cultured, and hard-hitting work, Manu Larcenet masterfully does just that.
