In the Jewish quarter of Algiers at the beginning of the 20th century, a
certain Rabbi’s cat seeks the answer to one fundamental question: can
you teach the torah to a cat blessed with the power of speech? The
answer has moulded itself into a gorgeous tale of rare intelligence that
will delight lovers of the East, pretty women and metaphysics. This is
another ravishing example of Joann Sfar’s flair for the experimental and
the avant-garde.
