By the 1970s, the consequences of China’s one‐child policy had begun to emerge: the population was being thrown offbalance
by rampant gender selection across the country, to the point that by the end of the 20th century, certain provinces
were completely devoid of women. The beginning of the 21st century didn’t do much to improve matters, such that having a
daughter has now become vital for the survival of many families…
This drastic situation has also given rise to the phenomenon of gender trafficking, which has begun to ravage Chinese
society. Small groups of organized criminals have taken to the streets, kidnapping young girls and mothers in order to use
them for their wombs and bring to market the rarest of commodities: women.
The year is now 2078. Led by Li Feng and a man named the General, the country’s largest crime organizations have
abandoned prostitution, gambling, and other lucrative sectors to focus on one activity: selling women at top dollar.
In the face of such heinous trafficking, there is little hope for families. But 18‐year‐old Chen is on a mission, tirelessly
sweeping the country in search of his little sister Piao, kidnapped by the mafia’s “neo‐natal brigades” five years before.
