Lord Brayard has returned from the Crusades with a young monk named Rignomer, who is helping him transport the relics of St. Bertrude. On their way, they meet a young girl called Hadiyatallah, who claims to be the daughter of a rich Arab prince trying to find her way back home. The knight offers to escort her back east and return her to her father, wth Rignomer in tow, but as they will soon discover, Hadiyatallah is not quite who she claims to be. A long and dangerous journey lies ahead.
