France has stumbled awkwardly into the new century, but somehow there still seems to be a tendancy for optimism because the crisis is worldwide. The glory of France will last forever… even if it has to take a short break. This book paints a portrait of these changing times through a series of around 200 drawings, most of which were published in the satirical French newspaper, ‘Le Canard Enchaîné’.
It’s a profound examination of a changing France and the daily lives of its inhabitants, in the same way that a historian would closely study the ruins of Pompeii in an attempt to deduce a brilliantly idiotic hypothesis on what happened there. With pinpoint accuracy, the author depicts some of the little things that make a big difference, and finally we reach this tentative conclusion: this new way of life is like a new pair of shoes… you’ve just got to get used to it.
