Today Couette was born,
And this is how she came:
In the smallest drop of water
In the last fall of rain…
Couette tells the story of a little girl who was born in the last rainfall. She falls from the sky in a drop of water on a particularly gray day. She lands right in the public garbage dump… but, when a person has fallen from the sky, they view things from a deliciously different angle. The dump becomes a field where flying sheep graze, the hulks of abandoned caravans become a comfortable house. it’s precisely because of her vision of the world, magically different from those of most people around her, that Couette manages to change the lives of everyone she meets. In this first volume, these people are a “family” of homeless folk living in a camp under a bridge, a lonely hot-dog vendor, and a disillusioned shopkeeper. They will become Couette’s new family, especially Bidou, a young homeless boy who takes her under his wing and shows her the world. Even though Couette doesn’t know how to speak, she has no trouble touching the hearts of those around her.
