The 1963 summer vacation has just ended and the two sisters Anne and
Frederique Weber are beginning their school year at a Parisian high school
for girls. Their parents are divorced and they hardly see their father except
during vacation.
Anne is thirteen years old, rather reserved but also very distracted in her studies,
dreaming of a boy she met during vacation. She is a dishonest girl who
steals and lies continuously without a care in the world. Frederique is fifteen
years old and she’s not a great student either. She plays the rebellious teenager:
she has a fling with a boy, who writes her dirty letters, she smokes, and
is active in a left-wing group, even though politics is forbidden at school.
