In 1879, Ethan Ringler, the young son of a good English family, but half Indian on his mother’s side, lands in New York determined to find his original tribe. At odds with his grandfather, he has to find a job to see him through before completing his quest. He soon leaves the smart districts to settle in a more disreputable place, but within reach of his budget. Ethan gets a job as a barman in a dance hall after having got the owner out of a tight corner using unusual weapons. Son and grandson of a great English gunsmith, he set off for the United States armed with two prototypes that everyone covets, in particular Van Rhinelander, a dangerous businessman. Appreciating the courage of Ethan, who completely refuses to be separated from his revolvers, Van Rhinelander proposes taking him on as a bodyguard. What Ethan Ringler doesn’t know is that, in accepting, he is permanently tying his fate to this continent undergoing massive change.
