The true story of the artist. It is almost the end of the war in the former Yugoslavia, and Frano’s team has become the big surprise story of the Croatian junior basketball championship. They have made it to the finals, they now must play against the favorite. But over the course of the final game, their coach, a harsh, demanding man, finds his memories of the war returning to him in flashbacks, which echo the action of the game, as well as the frailty and unhappiness of Frano, who suffers from a terrible lack of self-confidence.
As the game becomes more hotly contested, the story establishes its parallel between war and sport: these are questions of pushing one’s limits, setting aside the needs of one’s own body — a tale of true comradeship and solidarity. Right up to a climax that is both black and white, mingled with pain with joy. This is a masterful story of sport and of war, and a great, but humble lesson about pacifism, and life.
