And what better way to clarify such complex concepts than through a fictional account of a young woman who tells her father, himself a geneticist, that she and her sister have undergone a genetic ancestry test despite his many warnings against it? Sensing his daughter’s apprehension, he tells her how, through his work, he came to understand the significance of genetics in identity research. Using a succession of such stories the authors reveal the progress that has been made in genetics, the wealth of information it contains, and the numerous applications it has in a globalized, digitized world where our lives are increasingly determined by algorithms.
