The Bahamas, 1718. After an intense battle, the pirate Captain Sylla takes possession of an English vessel, with the help of his quarter-master Olivier de Vannes and his crew. Against all expectations, rather than slaughtering the Englishmen, the pirates invite them to join their crew. Because these pirates have principles: liberty, democracy, and fraternity. Olivier de Vannes, who is now the captain of the captured ship, comes across a frigate sailing under the Portuguese flag. He captures it. The ship seemed to be abandoned, but on board they find a group of black slaves who had mutinied, led by Queen Maryam. Narrated by Olivier in his ship’s log, this is a tale of two diverging world views: that of the pirates fighting against the status quo and that of a domineering
queen. But a common enemy might just give rise to an alliance…
