1860, Russia. Tolstoy travels to the village of Borodino to meet Vincent Bosse. Having previously served as a soldier in Napoleon’s army, Bosse decided to stay in Russia when the French finally retreated. Tolstoy wants to hear his story… And what a story it is.
It’s 1812, and Napoleon’s Russian campaign is in full swing. Vincent, a choir boy, is forced to join the Emperor’s army. While his angelic appearance allows him to avoid the front line and instead take up the role of drummer boy, the various men who take him under their wing are often not so lucky. As Vincent tells his story, we catch a glimpse of one of the bloodiest military endeavors in history. This is the tale of a child in the midst of an army of men on the brink of madness; a child who will have to make a choice that will haunt him for the rest of his days.
