Somewhere on the Eastern Front, between Poland and Russia in 1916.
Behind the gates of the orphanage, there is a scene of utter devastation: the
building lies in ruins, and decomposing bodies are scattered around the place.
Only three children have survived. How did they survive? By luring wounded
soldiers looking for shelter, then killing and eating them.
One of the orphans can no longer bear this harsh way of living. He discovers
new friends—the only ones?—in the beautiful Victorian dolls that sit on the
shelves in one of the many empty rooms in the orphanage. The dolls agree to
help him on one condition: that he give them eyes to fill their empty sockets.
