The story takes place in the early twentieth century, in the great
Canadian north.
Valentine’s family sets out to seek the remains of the former mine
where, twenty-five years earlier, her father had a stroke of luck and
discovered gold.
But Valentine’s future is tragically altered when her parents lose their
lives in an accident due to a forgotten powder keg.
Alone and inexperienced, Valentine finds herself deep inside Canada’s
Northwest Territories. She owes her survival to Yakupi, an Eskimo who
agrees to take her in among his own people.
Valentine’s arrival in this small group quickly creates unexpected, and
unstable situations. Even more so since as soon as he arrives back at
the camp, Yakupi learns about the death of his best friend. Now he also
has to take care of Oshaweetuk, his dead friend’s widow.
But the sudden profusion of women in Yakupi’s igloo is not to the taste
of Niviak, who is single, frustrated — and depraved. He will try to
claim the women for himself by any means at his disposal… including
murder.
