The Vendée Globe is a round-the-world single-handed yacht race, sailed non-stop and without assistance. The race was founded by Philippe Jeantot in 1989, and since 1992 has taken place every four years.As the only single-handed non-stop round-the-world race, the race is a serious test of individual endurance, and is regarded by many as the ultimate in ocean racing.Important Dates for 2012 :February 25, 2012 – 18 skippers are already enrolled in the Vendée Globe race, and another 10 competitors are currently looking for sponsors. Among these 18 skippers, there are at least 10 famous sailing experts. There are 10 French, 3 English (including Samantha Davis), an Italian, one Spaniard, two Swiss and one Australian.November 10, 2012 – start of the race at Les Sables-d’Olonnes on the French Atlantic Coast.Christmas 2012 and New Year’s 2013 – the first competitor passes the Cape Horn.End of January 2013 – first arrivals expected. End of February 2013 – last arrivals expected.
